Band Programme For Year 2008

Sunday, 11th May

Fete at Udny Green in Aid of Breast Cancer

A variety of stalls and attractions, including Inverurie Pipe Band. Alec Salmond was summoned from his lunch at Eat on the Green to open the event and say nice things about the performers, including the Band.
Saturday, 7th June

Taste of Grampian, Thainstone, by Inverurie

Public entertainment amongst the stalls and other entertainers outside the mart. Always a popular event and again a fine day brought out the crowds.
Saturday, 21st June

Meldrum Sports

Massed and individual band performances. Entertainment only. Kinder weather attracted a better public attendance than in some recent years.
Saturday, 21st June

Evening Performance at Drum Castle for a Subsea Engineering night out.

As forecast, the heavens broke as we arrived at the venue. We tuned up in the sparse shelter of the entrance gateway and played a short selection until the organisers managed to get the fireworks display alight!
Saturday, 19th July

Wedding at the Airport Thistle Hotel.

Evening engagement as a surprise performance at the wedding of Bass Drummer Stewart's cousin.
Saturday 2nd August

Aberdeen Tartan Day

Massed Band Parades along Union Street and performances by each Band at assigned spots in Aberdeen
Saturday, 16th August

Foggie Flower Show (Aberchirder)

Performances in the Show Park, at the sheltered housing and leading the parade of floats around the town in the evening. Again the weather was kind and we were able to put on good performances in the dry.
Sunday, 17th August

Deeside Steam and Vintage Rally, Crathes

The Band leads the parade of vintage vehicles around the ring; initially to open the event and later to lead the prize winners.
Sunday, 31st August

Public entertainment in the streets of Braemar. A long hard afternoon, playing in the streets, outside hotels and at the junction to the Games Park.
Saturday 6th September

Braemar Gathering

Massed band parades down the Main Steet into and around The Games Park. Individual band performances outside The Overseas Visitors' Tent and in the arena itself. Once again we played for the Drum Major's mace throwing event. This time we managed to avoid becoming a target.
Sunday, 9th November

Inverurie Royal British Legion Remembrance Sunday Parade

Leading the RBL parade to and from the Remembrance Day services in church and at The War Memorial.
Sunday 30th November

St. Andrew’s Day Parade, Inverurie.

The first of what may become an annual event. In the afternoon, we marched as a massed band with Kintore and Strathisla Pipe Bands from the British Legion to the Town Hall Square in Inverurie where each band had a 5 minute solo spot amongst the other activities. All were pleasantly surprised at the public support on such a cold, dreich day.
Friday 5th December

Wedding at Pittodrie House Hotel

Again another short "surprise" evening performance at a wedding dance. We were well looked after while waiting in the "Billiards Room", but the roads were treacherous on the way home!
